Iconic Hotel Kämp Fully Renovated – Opens 1,200 m² Spa and Expands with New Suites
Following a three-year-long, extensive renovation, the historic Hotel Kämp in Helsinki is now fully completed. Through the integration of the adjacent Helander building, the hotel has expanded by over 3,100 square meters, moved its main entrance back toward the Esplanade, and opened the doors to a new 1,200-square-meter wellness club.
The renovation, which began in late 2023, was carried out in phases while the hotel remained open. The project includes a complete transformation of all guest rooms, the reception, social spaces, the restaurant À La Kämp, and the classic Kämp Bar. In addition, the hotel's storied café culture has been revitalized through the new Kämp Delicatessen, fronting the city’s premier pedestrian street.
– Kämp has always been the place where Helsinki gathers for important conversations and grand celebrations. You don't manage a place like this with spreadsheets – you do it with heart! Now we are carrying this heritage into the future with a world-class spa, beautifully renovated bar and restaurant, and suites on a completely new level. Kämp is more vibrant, more beautiful, and more relevant than ever, says Petter Stordalen, founder and owner of Strawberry.
The renovation was carried out in collaboration with the Finnish design agency FYRA and the British architecture firm Archer Humphryes, known for Chiltern Firehouse and The Standard in London – in their very first Nordic hotel project.
In total, the hotel expands by 22 new guest rooms in the Helander building, 15 of which are suites. The crown jewel is the historic Mannerheim Suite, which, at 258 square meters, is Finland’s largest and most exclusive hotel suite.
– Kämp is a fundamental part of Helsinki's history, but it has never been a static environment. The hotel has always evolved alongside our beautiful capital. With this renovation, our ambition has been to create an even more complete overall experience, while carefully preserving the unique character and soul that reside within the walls, says Tuomas Liewendahl, General Manager of Hotel Kämp.
Full-Scale Wellness Destination
One of the major highlights of the new Hotel Kämp is Kämp Spa. This 1,200-square-meter wellness oasis combines Finnish sauna culture with modern recovery and fitness facilities. It features traditional Finnish saunas, a steam bath, and an infrared sauna alongside a pool, cold plunge, treatment rooms, and a state-of-the-art gym.
Together with the updated restaurant À La Kämp and the historic Kämp Bar – known historically as a gathering spot for cultural giants such as Jean Sibelius and Akseli Gallen-Kallela – the reopening marks the dawn of the next era in the hotel’s 137-year history.
